The FIFO on the interface is First-In/First-Out Dual-port memory and 2048x9 organization produced by IDT. The FIFO type is 7203. The main features of FIFO is in Table . One of the features is asynchronous and simultaneous read and write. The device has internal pointers that load and empty data on a first-in/first-out basis. It uses Full and Empty flags to prevent data overflow and underflow. Data is toggled in and out of the device through the use of the Write(W) and the Read(R) pins.
The protocol of read and write is simple. Figure shows a diagram of the FIFO. The signal W and R in the figure are strobe signals for writing data and reading data, respectively.
